On Friday, President Obama engaged in what the Daily Caller called "rhetorical overdrive" after the GOP-controlled House voted to fund the government without funding Obamacare. The president continued his temper tantrum during Saturday's weekly address when he claimed that military personnel may not get paid if Republicans don't cave in to his demands.
“The government will shut down. So will many services the American people will expect,” he said. “Military personnel, including those deployed overseas, won’t get their paychecks on time.”
Obama melted down Friday while speaking at a Ford plant, accusing Republicans of wanting to "send our economy into a tailspin.”
"They want to threaten default just to make sure that tens of millions of Americans continue not to have health care," he falsely claimed. "They’re holding the whole country hostage."
“They’re actually willing to plunge America into default if we can’t defund the Affordable Care Act,” he added. “They’ve tried to repeal or sabotage this — more than 40 times they’ve had these repeal votes. Every time they fail.”
But, the Daily Caller said, Obama himself has signed seven bills changing the massive and unpopular law.
He carried that message forward on Saturday while adding another false claim.
“Some are actually willing to plunge America into default if they can’t defund the Affordable Care Act,” he said. “They would actually plunge this country back into recession all to deny the basic security of healthcare to millions of Americans.”
But as Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the Washington Republican considered "key" in the vote to defund Obamacare, said in a press release after the vote that the law is simply "unworkable" and is "making life harder" for average Americans.
“I’ve heard story after story from people at home, who are terrified of the implementation of the President’s health care law. Today’s vote urges the Senate to take action, have that important debate, and work with us to find a better solution for hard-working Americans," she said.
But Rick Manning, vice president of public policy and communications for the conservative Americans for a Limited Government, said the battle is far from over.
"The House vote to defund Obamacare is a huge win for the people, but it is no time to rest on our laurels. Senate Republicans need to hold Majority Leader Reid's feet to the fire and force repeated votes on defunding the disastrous health care law. It is highly likely that Reid will eventually be compelled to stop Obamacare's implementation if Republicans stick to their principles," he told Examiner.com in an email.
Obama also claimed Saturday that deficits are falling faster than at any time since World War Two.
“And by the end of this year, we will have cut our deficits by more than half since I took office,” he said.
