The White House
President Obama will be visiting a school near you . . .
Many parents have been throwing fits over President Obama's plans to beam himself into classrooms all over the nation on September 8. The big objection (aside from his polarizing policies and administrative posts)? His administration was providing 'lesson plans' for teachers to use before, during, and after the presentation. An outcry ensued, as people's mistrust of Obama surfaced in the form of protests and plans to boycott schools on September 8th.
It turns out that parents were right, after all.
The Obama Administration ignored statutes forbidding the Department of Education from creating and disbursing curriculum to the states. Former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Education, Christina Erland Culver, in a Fox News interview, explains it best:
Presidents have traditionally addressed classrooms on the first day of school, but the problem with the event was the accompanying materials from the Department of Education.
That's where they kind of got into a slippery spot. Federal statute denies any authority to the Department of Education to provide any kind of curriculum or anything that can be passed down to the state, and that's part of the statute forming the Department of Education. So they kinda got themselves into this mess because they didn't really understand some of the key legal roles or the dos and don'ts at the federal Department of Ed," she said.
Interestingly, school districts who would have used the 'curriculum' could have potentially been in violation of DOE statues.
Both the White House and the Department of Education dropped the ball on this one.

Interesting article, thanks for the update.
Thank the loard...do the scxhool districts know this?
Sorry for the above mis spelling...Thank the Lord!!
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6.
Because this is an eternal law, it quickens with a double edge sword that cuts both ways, so, either train up your child to worship the Eternal Living God under which our nation stands, or, train up a child to worship some President under which our Nation is in temporary stewardship? Your choice....
Sorry Melanie-I did not see your post until this morning. Intersting article and thanks for posting. When I told you this the other day, about them circumventing the School Boards, I knew they were not suppose to but I was not sure the exact statutes involved. Thanks a MILLION for posting the article.
This only demonstrates more than yesterday the double standard hypocrisy of this administration and how the rules apply to everyone but them!
Glad to look into it. Not only are single parents interested about this subject, but it appears parents of all walks of life are weighing in. September 8th hit a nerve.
Thank You Melanie.
Yesterday, I was able to give some info to our school district. They chose to implement an opt-out form for parents (we only received 1 out of 3 today (Sept.4)).
This article (link) will show the district how close they came to getting sucked into violating a Federal Statute. It may/may not be a done deed for the DOE(?) Likely that many districts across America will find out too late, unless the President delays the event. (big backfire of a sneak attack?)
I expect there will be teachers, who's thoughts will already be organized by the DOE's curriculum... so that curriculum is already implemented. The safest scenerio for districts, may be to record the speech, for delayed viewing, with out comment.
Thanks Again!
Thanks, Jeff! My unanswered question is, "Why didn't Obama simply opt to share his comments with the nation and the world during prime time, thereby allowing parents their right to tune in or turn the channel?" That would have been a much wiser course, it seems. The coverage continues . . .
Melanie, I agree with your question.
As I just wrote to a guy, who thinks that, because Obama was elected POTUS, he should have the keys to everything in the USA.
Some people see Obama as their king and I doubt Obama disagrees with them.
Obama promised transparency in his administration, but having broken that promise, we are forced to distrust every move Obama makes.
Like the saying goes, Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean people aren't out to get you.
9.5 hours and counting.... Our kids are under orders to call me, if teachers insist they watch the POTUS.
Melanie, I just realized my previous comment didn't show up...
I have been distibuting the link your article. Here is a link to Cornell University's copy of US Code 3403 (DOE limitations)
http ://straylight.law.cornell.edu/uscode/20/usc_sec_20_00003403----000-. html
(Can't post links, so you need to copy/paste the above, then remove the space characters, after http and before html.)
Thanks again, Jeff, for researching this topic. Parents are being ridiculed by the Left, who refuse to see that the "talking points" attached to Obama's speech are biased. That is why the Department of Education statutes exist: To prevent indoctrination. I am cutting and pasting your link and will keep digging!
