Obama tax and spend programs meeting resistance

AP Photo

While most Democrats in Congress continue being lapdogs for President Obama taxing and spending programs, the public seems to be showing signs of getting restless. While he still has retains his popularity, congresspeople running for office in 2010 may be noticing that the programs they have pushed through are beginning to meet resistance among the voters.

Two things may be alerting Democrats that their programs of taxing and spending are wearing thin on the public:

As of June 19, 2009, the 1,237 TEA tax parties will  be held on July 4, 2009 seems to be an indication of the resistance growing against politicians that have voted for Obama's wild and reckless spending and the growing printing of money to pay for it.

Recent polls are showing that U.S. citizens are paying attention to how much money is being spent and the overreaching of the government seems to be causing growing concern.   The cost of Obama's health program starting reaching into the trillions of dollars seems to be a wakeup call to taxpayers.

Two polls published on Thursday illustrate the political risk Obama faces as he turns his attention toward an overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system, an issue so contentious that previous attempts have failed to address high cost and availability issues.

Concerns of the public are reflected in a Wall Street Jouornal/NBC news poll that shows a concern about the deficit spending, including the $787 billion economic stimulus package and government intervention in the bank and auto industries.

  • 58% percent believe Obama and Congress should focus on keeping the budget deficit down which is forecast beyond $1 trillion for the 2009 fiscal years.
  •
  • 56% oppose giving financial aid to automaker General Motors and the government owning 60 percent of the company.

In a Times/CBS poll

  • 44% approve of Obama's handling of the health care issue with 34 percent disapproving
  •

According to Pollster JohnZogby, Americans are enamored with the messenger but less so with his message.

While devotees of Obama still blame Bush for the economic problems in the U.S., there seems to be an awakening among a growing number of citizens that Democrats are living up to their reputation of "tax and spend."  It could decide the control of Congress after the 2010 election.
