President Obama and his family have spent the weekend in Chicago; Obama attended a Memorial Day ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. A few days ago, Obama announced that he would skip the Presidential tradition of visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, and Vice-President Biden is laying the wreath there today instead. Last year, Obama participated in the service at Arlington National Cemetery. Obama’s decision to skip it this year has upset some veterans.

The Lincoln cemetery in Illinois is one of the newer cemeteries that belongs to the National Cemetery Administration, and includes burial plots for troops and their families. 17 troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried there, but most of the graves are for World War II veterans who died after the war.

In Utah, Memorial Day services around the state will honor at least 35 Utah soldiers who have lost their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and those who lost their lives in war.  For more on that story, click here.
