Obama speech to Arabs ends U.S. superpower status

AP Photo

President Obama has learned nothing from history about  how signs of weakness can embolden enemies.  As he used a politically correct speech in Cairo, it brought to mind the appeasement  by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain when he gave away the Czechoslovian ethnic German region to the Nazis in the 1930's.  In return, Hitler waged war across Europe, leaving 50 million dead besides those who died in the concentration camps.

In Obama's case, he appears to be willing to sacrifice Israel to please the muslim world.  Just as Chamberlain talked about the appeasement as "peace in our time", the U.S. President praised Islam's commitment to "peace," "justice" and "religious tolerance."

He was so anxious to please his audience that Obama actually lied. He listed the Muslim world's supposed contributions to history - algebra, the compass and the printing press, among others. Actually the Greeks invented algebra; the Chinese invented  the compass and  Johannes Gutenberg, a German, created the modern printing press.

Jeffrey T. Kuhner is president of the Edmund Burke Institute, a Washington think tank writes in the Washington Times on June 14 that Obama's address was

more than a puerile and pathetic exercise in political correctness. It will be remembered as the pivotal moment in history when the United States ceased to be a superpower. Sapped of its self-confidence and sense of grandiose destiny, America chose the policy of appeasement over confrontation, lies over truth, illusion over reality.

It is becoming obvious that Obama is ready to sacrifice Israel rather than stand up to  an Islamic world which is no friend of the United States. He may think that his charm will create a bond between them and himself which  will avoid confrontation in the future.  He apparently is the Neville Chamberlain of the 21st century, portraying impotency and weakness instead of strength, losing America's standing in the world as a superpower.

"President Obama has learned nothing from history about how signs of weakness can embolden enemies."

Or maybe he's learned more than Bush ever did and realizes that people aren't as dumb as Bush thought, and they *are* capable of rational thought given accurate information?

"In Obama's case, he appears to be willing to sacrifice Israel to please the muslim world."

There you go again, trying to make it about the Muslims... I think he'd make a lot more Americans happy than anything. Frankly, I'm tired of Israel controlling this country through lobbyists. It's pure bull****, and if Obama wanted to abandon Israel completely, I'd support him for it. Give me one legitimate reason why we're still allied with them, anyway. What good do they do us, aside from ****ing up elections and ensuring that only right-wing propaganda makes it on the mainstream media?

So wrong... on so many levels.
Nice touch there, by the way. Comparing Islam to Nazi Germany. Liked that. Pretty logical.

Does it, in any meaningful sense, matter where precedent stands, relative to who is in the right? In this case, America is not throwing Israel to the wolves - it is trying to find a fair solution to a real problem. Hell yes, Israel is a contentious issue. But you cant say that either side is perfect, or dismiss the genuine grievances the Arabs have. What Obama attempts to acheive - I understand this may be anathema to the author - is a consensus. That is, where we talk about things before running in and shooting.

Partisan, blind hatred of old enemies solves nothing. You cite irreconcilable differences with those you vilify, yet in doing so only serve to widen the gulf. Timeshifter is right - lesson of the bush years id that agression turns mistrust into hatred. That is why we now deal with a nuclear Korea and Iran. Threatened, they grow ever more hostile.

To deal with the meat of the text:

You suggest that it is wrong to describe Islam as peaceful just or tolerant. Which is just a leetle bigoted. I'm curious as to how you justify this sentiment (minority of extremists not indicative of whole religion, see kkk)

"Obama actually lied" Could we turn down the vitriol and misrepresentation please? You sound like a tabloid talking about asylum seekers. Two points. Obama probably did set out to deceive - this was an earnest misunderstanding. And also, before you castigate him for inaccuracy, check your own facts:
    wikipedia.org/wiki/Algebra

In what way outside your head could Obama "stand up" to these foes. Palestine is, you will concede, an unlikely bully . Despite your assertions, it is unlikely to embark on a major world war any time soon. You cannot lump it together with the entire middle east any more that I can say you are the same as Mexico, or France.

And does America deserve to be a superpower, if all its "strength" is blin

    Excellent article and spot on.

From bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia to sacrificing Israel, obama has gotten back in touch with his Muslim roots.

First of all I think who ever wrote this article is a person who nothing about history or justice as it should be.
Obama is a sensible guy trying to find a solution to a problem which where created by the western powers and maintained till now by them.
Israel is a foreign organ in the middle east's body. It has been planted by force and it does exist by force.
There is no love between us ( victims who lost their home land ) and Jews who stole our homes and established a state on the ruins of our own home, a state survive only by it's army will never last for long.
For the best of the Americans to support justice and start think they are just humans as other nations , you do not need to be a super power , all what you need is love and peace , in this case every one will be happy.
So by applying justice and form peace between the Arabs and the European Jews in Palestine.
Love and justice only can make America a superpower, not hatred and blind support of criminals.

Martha, apparently you and I grew up in a world where love meant “fuzzy sweet feelings” instead of hi-jacking planes, and blowing up in innocent people to their faces. I agree that Obama would lie and cajole anyone that will help him further his agenda in the United States, and taking a hearty dump on the Israelis in favor of the terroristic agenda of the Palestinians is wrong. It’s likely that a lot of liberals and some commenter’s would love to see us just fade away, but we won’t because right wins out!

    xfd,
it's a valid comparison. nazi's invaded europe, iran would invade israel .. derrrrrrrruyhhash

I hate liberals with all my heart. I would rather take a dump in my own pants than even spend this 30 seconds responding to you. Unfortunately I am not about to crap. I pray every night that Obama will incite civil war and I will finally have just cause to blow the likes of xdf/timeshifter to bits. I believe that appeasement does nothing to further the interests of America. And if it weren't for the conspiracy of the MSM to portray Bush as the worst president ever most Americans wouldn't have the feelings that they do. History will judge GWB and Obamao.
