Obama speaks loudly and carries a small stick against ISIS

President Obama stepped to the podium and announced, among other things, that he doesn’t have a strategy yet on how to deal with ISIS. The Daily Beast reported Thursday that this is the result of infighting and indecision on the part of the White House, the State Department, and the Pentagon. The administration had spent a week describing ISIS as a cancer that had to be eradicated. Now the president is left to speak loudly and carry a small stick where the terrorist army that is rampaging throughout the Middle East is concerned.

Matt Bai at Yahoo News suggests that this indecision is based on a liberal reluctance to view foreign policy as a stark choice between good and evil. President Reagan saw the Cold War as a death struggle with the evil empire of the Soviet Union. President George W Bush similarly regarded the war on terror as a clash between civilization and barbarism. The Obama administration regards ISIS as a nuisance and a distraction, something that has to be dealt with to be sure, but not a deadly threat to the United States.

It seems to be an emerging consensus on the left that ISIS, while certainly bad, is not a threat to the American homeland. Considering that ISIS has threatened to carry out attacks on American soil and, with the open southern border and a cadre of trained American jihadis, certainly have the capability to do so, it is a chilling, reckless attitude to take. The first time a jihadi shoots up a crowed shopping mall or sets off a suicide bomb on a busy street, the fury that will be directed against those who let it happen will be without limits.

President Obama has not frightened the terrorists in any way, unlike Reagan who certainly frightened the Soviet Union. He has managed to frighten the American people and American allies throughout the world. He has no clue and because of that Americans are at risk of death and mayhem.
