As announced Monday by NBC News: The Obama White House
Knew as early as 2010 that millions of Americans would be cancelled by their health insurance carriers and defaulted into“Obama Care.” The disheartening revelation rocked the nation as well as downgraded President Obama's already tarnished reputation.
For those of us that have covered the developing story of the “affordable health care act” for years, this disclosure, despite the president’s assurance that those happy with their current health insurance policy could keep it, but, in fact lost it, comes as no surprise. It’s just another trip and fall on the road to “real change” in the American health care system.
The question that comes to mind for many…Was President Obama lying to the American people, or, was the “truth” lost in the multiple year battle waged between Obama and Republican Party opposition? Perhaps a little bit of both.
Die hard Republican Conservatives will point to a misleading president that openly lies to the public while steering national political policy in a Socialist direction. Liberals will genuflect in recognition of the wizard behind the curtain that magically bends government policy to the benefit of the people. For them, if a few have to pay a bit more for coverage so that those that have-not can gain coverage, so be it! But it ain't that simple Johnie!
The “truth” is…“ Obama care” is a compromised settlement between the federal government and the insurance, healthcare industry; The most powerful political lobby in Washington D.C.. And to date, it’s not working very well.
How do you say $16,000,000,000,000?
It’s been estimated by the government that “ healthcare” as practiced in the United States accounts for no less than 16% of the gross national product. Sixteen trillion's a big number. And, medical costs in our nation has broken the fiscal and emotional back of thousand!
Create a mandate that attempts to reign in the # 1 cause of budget deficit in the United States, and, the perpetrator of the cause and effect that is the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in our nation will bite back. In this case the 'big dog' is the insurance, medical mega-complex corporate structure.
While Obama’s intent may be genuine, the monster that is healthcare “American style” may not be restraint-able in its current configuration. And here lies the problem.
During the never ending ongoing debate, I’ve read a lot of this: The combination of diet, obesity manifested illness meets insurance enabled over-visiting patient, collides with under or uninsured emergency admitted indigent, spells insurmountable fiscal calamity under any “pooled” private insurance underwritten policy.
It's a social driven mathematical equation that simply doesn't pencil out. In his attempt to level the playing field of healthcare insurance, the president has jumped into bed with the monster that created the imbalance to begin with.
He's looking for a solution to a runaway, top -heavy, insurance enabled problem that may not have an answer without a majority shift in personal health and well-care awareness on behalf of the American people.
True enough, and unfortunately, the majority of American’s teeter on the edge of obesity.
Diabetes and heart disease are the number one and two “preexisting” conditions for Americans followed closely by various forms of cancer and lung disease. Diet as well as alcohol intake and cigarette, tobacco intake could be curtailed or eliminated via “well care” education. And the majority of emergency room admittance could be handled through neighborhood and rural clinics. But that isn’t necessarily promoted through the “affordable health care act.” And, big medicine will off-set the so called policy savings offered to the young and the infirm through “ Obama Care” by “taxing those that can afford the hit through higher premium costs.
“They” say it couldn’t be done. Perhaps they’re right. After all, the working “world wide” model for accessible, affordable, healthcare is a “single payer” system. Something that government and corporation will not allow in America.
For the millions that are now faced with the forced prospect of paying a higher premium, and in some cases, loosing the benefit of “free” health care coverage provided by their employees, the realities of “Obama Care” is coming home in the form of a smaller pay check.
