In an interview aired on NBC's today show on Wednesday, April 24, President Barrack Obama talked with Savannah Guthrie about life in the White House and his family. In the course of conversation they talked about music, dancing, what's cool and how to be with it as a parent. During this segment of the interview, he shared his strategy to sway his daughters away from thoughts of getting tattooed.
“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo. And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel.” – NBC's Today Show
The President's daughters, Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, are tattoo-free at this point, but if they decide to get inked when they are older the President's statements are sure to come back to him in jest with taunts about politicians keeping their word. Doctored pictures of the first family sporting identical facial family tattoos have already surfaced on the Internet.
Whether or not the "girls" decide to get inked in the future remains to be seen, however the interview did shine a light on the fact that the Obamas talk with their daughters. When Today's Savannah Guthrie asked "Is there any trend in music that the girls are into right now that you just don't get?" He told Guthrie that his daughters are good at keeping him posted "on what's cool and what's not." He admitted to using the music series at the White House to sometimes invite new artists "so that I can seem like I'm up to speed on things." Who knows in the future if his daughter's do decide to get inked, they might just be able to talk him into a turn in the chair, too.
