In an interview published Sunday by The New Republic, President Barack Obama surprised many by saying he has shot a gun as a skeet shooting hobbyist at Camp David. After all, with all the public knows about the president, his alleged penchant for shooting was never divulged to the media or the public. According to CNN, by Monday, doubts of his claim to being a hobbyist’s skeet shooter at the presidential retreat were being voiced loudly and clearly – including the doubt coming from United States Representative Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee.
Obama brought up the topic of his skeet shooting experiences within the magazine’s interview to stress that he would not ignore the gun-ownership concerns being raised throughout the nation by hunters and sportsmen who obviously want to continue shooting for sport when all is said and done regarding gun control.
Obama claimed:
Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time.
Yet, doubters are asking questions entrenched in skepticism.
For example, Rep. Blackburn blatantly asks when appearing Monday on CNN:
If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn’t he referenced this at any point in time? I’ll tell you what I do think. I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I’ll go skeet shooting with him, and I bet I’ll beat him.
Pressed during the daily “presser” with the media at the White House, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked about Obama’s skeet shooting claim. He said he didn’t know how often the president participated in skeet shooting. When further asked if there were any pictures of the president shooting, Carney said he had never seen any.
Skeet shooting is a sport in which people shoot airborne clay disks for sport - with a gun.
