New York City has many reasons to be proud. The city was well represented today at the 44th Presidential inauguration. The children of Staten Island recovered from Super-storm Sandy to fundraise and make it to perform. The transplant who has become a token New Yorker Beyonce sang the national anthem, and of course Senator Shumer was a huge presence, showcasing his dry New York sense of humor.
Also notable was a performance by woman who as little girl grew up in Hell's Kitchen whom brought her heart and soul to Washington, DC.
Alicia Keys took her hit track "Girl On Fire" and changed the lyrics to "Obama's On Fire" which was in the best of ways, not the worst of ways. She made this performance personal "Everybody knows that Michelle is his girl and together they run the world" is probably the most memorable lyric of the night.
This little girl from the gritty streets of NYC has grown up and showed her talents tonight. Love her or hate her Ms. Keys brought the house down and gave the President and Mrs. Obama an anthem for eternity.
