Obama risking impeachment over forcing gun control measures via executive orders (Video)

Vice President Joe Biden’s gun control task force proposals and recommendations got forwarded to President Barack Obama yesterday, one day ahead of schedule. Those proposals include 19 executive orders the president could implement without seeking congressional approval.

At least one Republican is threatening to begin impeachment proceedings against the president if such actions are taken to enforce his gun control measures.

Rep. Steve Stockman from Texas threatened to file impeachment papers against Barack Obama if the president goes forth with what Stockman perceives as an "unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic" as quoted by The Huffington Post.

Stockman released the following statement yesterday:

"I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment," Stockman pledged.

"The president’s actions are an existential threat to this nation.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years. The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny. Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible."

Obama will be unveiling his plan for gun control on Wednesday. Although executive privilege is an option for him, the president is expected to first bring his proposals to congress.

"Will all of them get through this Congress? I don't know," Obama said at a news conference Monday. "My starting point is not to worry about the politics."

When President Obama and Vice President Biden share their gun control proposals tomorrow in a package that will be including a ban on assault weapons, they will be joined by school children who wrote letters to the president following the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
