Obama promised hope and change but delivers only more campaigning

The U.S. Constitution sets limits for the government, and declares citizens of the United States as free to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
The U.S. Constitution sets limits for the government, and declares citizens of the United States as free to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

As we get closer to the 2012 presidential election, President Barack Obama has abandoned his duty as president, a job he’s done tenuously at best, in order to campaign for re-election. Actually I don’t believe he ever really stopped campaigning even after being sworn in. This man, who promised hope and change, and who claims to have been a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago, has the worst record of any president I’m aware of, and at least in my lifetime.

Obama once claimed to know and respect the constitution more than President George W. Bush, because of his “professorship,” which was actually a non-tenured position as a lecturer and senior lecturer over the course of 12 years; teaching a mere three classes a year. His record in office, however, belies his supposed expertise. In fact, Obama, with the help of his leftist cronies; Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA ), and their band of merry compatriots (band being derived from the Middle French – bande; likened to a gang) has attacked the second amendment of the Bill of Rights, sued states asserting their 10th amendment right to defend themselves against threat of illegal immigration, and endeavored to bastardize the 14th amendment even further than it has been in order to open the flood gates and borders to every illegal alien who’s squatted on American soil.

This self-proclaimed constitutional law professor had the audacity to force a socialist healthcare program on the American people, along with the-traitors-to-their-oath in congress, despite the unconstitutionality of it. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, siding with the 26 states courageous enough to take on the Soros hand-puppet in the White House, ruled that Congress over-stepped its constitutionally granted authority when it passed the so-called individual mandate forcing Americans to buy insurance.

And what of Obama’s job performance regarding national security? Abysmal. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, President Bush issued an Executive Order and the Homeland Security Presidential Directive which led to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. In the spring of 2002, Bush proposed the creation of a permanent Cabinet-level Department of Homeland Security in order to unite the 40-some agencies that had previously operated separate and apart from each other. In the original plan, the mission of the DHS was to be four-fold (it later expanded to six): Border & Transportation Security; Emergency Preparedness & Response; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, & Nuclear Countermeasures; and Information Analysis & Infrastructure Protection.

In the mission to control the borders and prevent terrorists and explosives from entering the country President Obama has, instead, pushed alongside Reid and others in Congress to create an amnesty program which will essentially open our borders further. The Dream Act is one example of his dereliction of duty, as well as his divisive rhetoric. Standing in front of a crowd in El Paso, Texas, near the border of Mexico in May of this year, Obama stated the border is more secure than it has ever been. He even went so far as to chide Republicans, and the American people, with derisive hyperbole stating we’ll probably want a moat with alligators along the border next.

The truth is, Obama “secured” the border, in part, with the high-tech border fence that Bush 43 originally attempted and then scrapped as a failure. Obama eventually scrapped the high-tech border fence in January of this year, but not before costing tax payers nearly $1 billion, and claiming it as successful (despite stopping it as not). Obama also touted the border as secure because he increased the amount of border patrol agents supposedly stationed on the border, yet according to a recent report compiled from Department of Justice data; illegal re-entry cases have skyrocketed under the Obama administration. Although there has been an increase in prosecutions, the increase stems from an increase in illegal entry. In 2006, under the Bush administration, U.S. Customs & Border Protection apprehended about 1.1 million illegals; Obama’s administration has apprehended a paltry 463,000, despite the increase in first-time and re-entry crimes, and the increase in border patrol agents.

Obama has not only not controlled the borders and prevented illegal entry, but he has attacked the states who have taken it upon themselves to do his job; Arizona, Georgia, and Alabama for starters. In an unprecedented move, Obama has not only sued American states, whom he’s supposed to be president of, but has supported the inclusion of up to 11 Latin American countries as plaintiffs in his lawsuit. In the case against Georgia, Obama has allowed Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru to participate as claimants against the state. Because Obama has refused to comply with the directives of his position, and with the mandates laid out for the executive branch by President Bush under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security, multiple states have endeavored to create Arizona-style SB1070 laws, in various stages of passage. So far; California, Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Maine, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Florida have contemplated immigration enforcement bills in their state legislatures.

Then there’s the federal operation, Fast & Furious, operated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives (BATFE) commonly called ATF, in which the federal agency sold weapons from the U.S. to suspected gun smugglers in Mexico who are linked with Mexican drug cartels. Meanwhile, Obama has shown support to Mexican President Felipe Calderon daring to blame much of the Mexican drug violence on U.S. firearms, which the ATF sold to Mexican drug cartels under Obama’s administration. At least 11 deaths have been linked to the U.S. weapons sold by the federal government to Mexico, including the death of a U.S. border patrol agent. Despite Obama’s assurance to those in El Paso that the borders are the securest they’ve ever been; guns from the Fast & Furious operation have been found in Texas and Arizona; both border states under siege. And while the Obama administration remains complicit in gun violence by Mexican drug cartels, Obama has backed the United Nations effort to bring international gun control to the United States.

As easy as it would be to continue to tick off the bevy of unconstitutional acts of our current president, I believe it is more succinct to assert that Obama has minimal respect for our constitution and no respect for our country’s sovereignty. Nevadans must, like all Americans, reassess our values and what we are willing to do to maintain freedom, as only Americans experience it. At both the state and national level, citizens must educate themselves on the costs truly spent on decades of apathy, and how to now erase the scourge of euro-socialist elitists (Obama, Reid, currently holding office.
