President Barack Obama's re-election campaign staff opened a new Twitter account, organizers announced Tuesday.

The new account is @Obama2012.

The account's profile describes itself as "the official #Obama2012 destination for news, views, and answers to your questions" and is linked to the president's official campaign website.

"If you're not a campaign junkie, this may not be for you," one of the first tweets said. "If you are: Pull up a chair and send us your questions and thoughts."

The first two articles placed on the account on Tuesday:

  • Side by Side: Say Anything Mitt on Contraceptive Coverage; and
  • As the payroll tax cut deadline looms again, Republicans engage in stall tactics.

There is also a site for First Lady Michele Obama during the re-election campaign, @MichelleObama.

Office White House business is announced on the government Twitter account, @whitehouse.

The official Twitter account for Vice President Joe Biden is @VP.
