President Obama completely misconstrued the Arizona immigration law during the debate last night. He said that the law allows for police officers to stop anyone who looks like they might be in the country illegally. This is, of course, is completely false. One must be stopped during an unrelated offense before being asked about his or her immigration status. How Mitt Romney could let that slide and then even distance himself from the law is nothing short of pathetic. He also should have pointed out that Arizona was forced to pass its own law because the President failed to uphold his Constitutional oath to protect the borders of our country. Romney also should have questioned whether Obama is more concerned about his countrymen or about illegal immigrates since he has sued states that enforce the laws he refuses to uphold.
Romney should have also pointed out that the Senate three times rejected the Dream Act amnesty and Obama had no Constitutional authority to grant amnesty on his own. The Legislative branch passes legislation and the Executive enforces it. This is a concept a third grader could explain so surely the President knew violating his oath of office. He was a Constitutional law professor after all.
