The “sequester” issue continues to take a toll on President Barack Obama. The president, a self-professed Trekkie, fresh off blasting the GOP took to conflating a significant “mind” tricks involving “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” during a speech on budget cuts, according to Mar. 2 New York Post report.
In the move that angered “Star” nerds around the universe, the President Obama jokingly noted during a White House press conference that he could not use a “Jedi mind meld” to get Republicans to on his budget plan bandwagon.
“I know that this has been some of the conventional wisdom that’s been floating around Washington, that somehow, even though most people agree that I’m being reasonable . . . the fact that [Republicans] don’t take it means that I should somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what’s right,” President Obama said, as he mixed the “Jedi mind tricks” of “Star Wars” with the “Vulcan mind meld” of “Star Trek.”
According to the New York Post, social media, especially Twitter went on high alert, with tweets like, this one from obvious “Darth Vader” fan @DepressedDarth. “Obama just confused Star Trek and Star Wars by saying Jedi Mind Meld. I think it’s time to impeach.”
The White House joined in on the fun, tweeting, “We must bring balance to the Force. #Sequester #JediMindMeld.”
