Obama Jedi flub: Obama mixes ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’ references

An Obama Jedi flub causes massive outrage amongst die-hard sci-fi fans in America? Must be a slow news day.

On Friday, fans of both “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” enjoyed ribbing President Obama after he made what is now being termed as a “Jedi Flub.”

In answering questions regarding having Republican members of Congress agree on a budget, Obama reiterated that he would not use Secret Service men to force any member of Congress into a room until a settlement was reached.

“I’m not a dictator. I’m the president,” said Obama.

But in trying to suggest that Republicans need to do what’s right for the country, Obama said his power is limited. And while he has a certain outcome he’d like to see happen, he knows he cannot perform a “Jedi mind-meld” on the members of Congress to get them to do what he wants.

Those three words set social networks on fire, as sci-fi nerds everywhere chided and laughed at President Obama for mixing up his “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” metaphors.

And, of course, if you don’t know, Jedi is from the “Star Wars” universe, where mind melds occur on “Star Trek.”
