The Congress of the United States of America consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate is comprised of 100 elected lawmakers (senators) – two from each state; and, the House is comprised of 435 Representatives – elected from various districts in each of the 50 states. Their responsibility, as elected officials, is to tax and spend in order to administer the business of the United States and its citizens, i.e., the American people. They work for the people, not the other way around. That has been their charter for the past 226 years, i.e., since 1787.
Last week, the Congress failed in fulfilling their sworn duty and responsibility. They failed the American people! Ideology trumped common sense. It was a classic battle between Democrats and Republicans – specifically, Democrats and Conservative Republicans…most of whom were elected by Americans in the 2010 mid-term and the election in 2012. Those well meaning conservatives were profoundly unable to fulfill the wishes of those who elected them. For that reason, the Nation has been harmed.
From each according to their ability, to each according to their need… was the dictum of Karl Marx; and, apparently, the President of the United States and the Democrat controlled Senate. The President has often said…”I want to redistribute the wealth.” Karl Marx would be a happy man, if he were alive today.
The so-called Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, will thrust upon America a burden so ominous as to virtually cripple the financial well-being of many Americans. The Act is rife with unintended consequences, so potentially harmful to the Nation, that it rivals the Socialistic agenda of nations encumbered with such philosophy, e.g., Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, China, the U.K., et al..
The current political atmosphere in Washington is profoundly toxic. In about 100 days, they’ll be at it again. New threats of shutdown, coupled with threats regarding the ubiquitous Debt Ceiling. There will not be any sane solutions to curbing Government spending. Many Americans are addicted to being on the dole. It has been proven that people on welfare draw more monthly dollars from governments than if they were to work for their money from employment. Incidentally, seniors receiving Social Security Income benefits should not be included in those “on the dole”. Those seniors earned their benefits; people on welfare, assuming they are physically and mentally capable, should get a life and stop looking for the so-called wealthy to provide their daily bread.
