Obama, Hitler and Hank Williams Jr.

Are you ready for some football? Apparently, ESPN says no to Hank Williams Jr. They cut Williams’ song “All my Rowdy Friends” from Monday night’s game after he made a comment on Fox news saying that, Speaker of the House John Boehner playing golf with president Obama is like Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu playing golf with Hitler.

ESPN said that while Williams is not an employee, he is linked to its company and they were extremely disappointed by his comments. I will first say that it’s ESPN’s right to pull the song and overall, it might have been the smart move to avoid offending anyone.

However, it’s important to remember that Williams didn’t call the president Hitler. He stated that there was a big contradiction between the Israeli prime minister and the man who killed 6 million Jews and that was the kind of contradiction it should have been between President Obama and the Republican Party’s current figure head.

More important is that the news anchors for Fox, which many see as the conservative network seemed unable to comprehend the remark. Williams was disgusted with the idea that the Republican, who should be leading completely contrasting ideas to the President, would play a light hearted game with him for some kind of a fun afternoon, especially during a very rough political battle.

Yes, it would be nice if political differences could be such a small thing that two people on somewhat opposing teams could get together and get to know each other better and perhaps take their minds off heavier issues. However, it is the belief of many conservatives and those who support the Republican Party that President Obama is in fact nothing less than a socialist who has done much to destroy this country’s economic system and is eroding many of our freedoms.

You may not understand what the big deal is, but it goes to show that the Washington political system is not so much representative of the people as you would like to believe or hope that it is.
