One way for a politician to look popular is to have millions upon millions of followers on social network mediums such as Twitter. For example, President Barack Obama allegedly has 18,837,568 followers on Twitter at the time this article is being written.

Impressive? Not really – not for the leader of the free world. Especially when one concentrates on the words “allegedly has…” According to a new tool from Status People which breaks down the true Twitter followers from the orchestrated fake followers, more than half of President Obama’s Twitter followers are fake – not real people – nonexistent.
There was a concern recently that Mitt Romney’s Twitter account numbers were increasing much too rapidly – and, of course, there was an immediate investigation which found that programs had created a few hundred thousand bogus accounts for the GOP presidential candidate-to-be. The “left” went virally crazy over the news.
How crazy the “right” will go over the news that Obama has literally several million bogus accounts on Twitter is yet to be seen.
Perhaps the “right” should be calling for more than just “voter ID” to keep things honest – perhaps “Twitter ID” is needed for the same reason - just to keep things honest.
