Washington DC’s news correspondents’ “whose who” event took place last night, the 100th Annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, held at the Washington Hilton on May 3, 2014 in Washington, DC. As ever, the list of attendees was impressive and comprehensive to say the least and all eyes were on what people were wearing…
President Barack Obama in his tuxedo and bowtie was joined by wife Michelle in her elegant pale grey tulle Marchesa gown, featuring a dropped left shoulder and heavy embroidery over the fitted bodice. Silvertone dangling earrings completed the look.
As usual, Obama had a great time with his speech, ribbing into key correspondents and touching upon some key events (such as the missing Malaysian Airlines flight), political issues and politicians. Everything was fair game…
POTUS (president of the United States) couldn’t resist talking about Putin’s barechestedness (yes, that is a word!) and Obamacare, joined by none other than Obamacare software advisor/creator Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at the end of his speech to help with a glitch on a video!
And the outfits were great! Arianna Huffington, who began the Huffington Post, rocked a pewter colored long-sleeved lace gown, which she accessorized with almost perfectly matching pumps and a gold metallic clutch. Katie Couric too wore lace – a long-sleeved white lace maxi.
NBC’s Savannah Guthrie wore the cutest cotton candy pink cocktail dress, while co-correspondent Natalie Morales looked elegant in her one-shoulder bottle green gown. Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Carson Daly looked dapper in their dark suits.
Actress Katharine McPhee, TV announcer Lara Spencer and TV/Radio personality Claudia Jordan all wore orange gowns, while Greta Van Susteren just wanted to be one-of-the-guys and sported a tux! And how about that gown on actor Matthew Morrison’s fiancé Renee Puente?
Other great gowns worthy of mention were worn by actresses Olivia Munn, Anna Chlumsky, Lupita Nyong'o, Freida Pinto and Cynthia Rowley, model Anne V, singer Jessica Simpson, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and columnist Meghan McCain.
