Even God rested on the seventh day, but not Barack Obama. The president has been busy, busy, busy, showing prodigal House Republicans how mighty is his wrath. If a few senior citizens get trampled in his quest to demonstrate the omnipotence of his administration, so be it.
The latest victims of the government shutdown are Americans peacefully living out their golden years on Lake Mead in Nevada (h/t David Burge). Or at least that was the plan up until this weekend, when they received eviction notices because the private homes they occupy sit on federal land.
Las Vegas ABC affiliate KTNV interviewed one of the couples affected, Ralph and Joyce Spencer. The couple never expected to be forced out of the Lake Mead house they've owned since the 1970s. But on Thursday, a park ranger showed up at their door and told them they had 24 hours to get out of Dodge.

For the time being, the Spencers — mister is 80, missus is 77 — are camping out in a family owned ice cream store. The couple’s banishment from the only home they’ve known for 40 years was so abrupt that Joyce Spenser failed to bring along her husband’s pants and undershirts, though she is thankful that she remembered to take his walker and Scooter.
Park officials refused to be interviewed by reports but sent an officious-sounding statement that reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen."
The administration’s heartless disregard for Americans of advancing years was on display on Day One of the partial government shutdown when the president ordered barricades placed around the National World War II Memorial even as veterans of that war, many in wheelchairs, arrived on a pilgrimage from remote parts of the country.
