Obama conned by Russian President Medvedev?

It should have come as no surprise to anyone understanding President Barack Obama's naivety when it came to foreign affairs that the Russians would play him like a fiddle. To be played like a fiddle means to be manipulated artfully.

Not many days after Obama said in Moscow,

Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected.

President Dmitry Medvedev went to within Georgia's internationally recognized borders, a region the Russians view as "independent."  Medvedev's visit was the first one since it invaded the area in August 2008, when Georgia troops tried to regain control of it.

The results of the invasion were that South Ossetia and Abkhazia were secured by the Russians.  The fact that Medvedev included a visit to a Russian army base may have been a slap in the face to Obama's hopes that he would have some influence on the Russian President.

The Russian may tweak Obama's nose and that of the European Union if a war breaks out in that region again.  In viewing war games in the area of the Black Sea, Medvedev may have been indicating he is ready to use force against the region again.

The point made by the Russians may be that under Obama, they consider the United States a helpless giant, bogged down with economic and political problems and a helpless, loquatious President.  It was said by Senator and now Vice President Joe Biden that Obama would face an international crisis during his first six months in office. He said,

"Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking.

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani responded by saying that,

“Biden continues to harbor doubts that Obama is ready to be commander- in -chief.”

Even during the campaign, there was an uneasiness when Obama  agreed to sit down and talk to American enemies without any preconditions. Iran and North Korea only saw that as a sign of weakness and now Russian can be added to that list.
