When highly successful New York billionaire Don Trump recently came out in support of Mitt Romney for President of the United States there was an initial infectious feeling of mutual support by many New Yorkers. However, now that the Obama campaign has had some time to consider its response to Trumps endorsement of Romney there are some misgivings which have spread throughout the Syracuse community in regard to a blind endorsement for Trump's ideas. It has been reported by Byron Tau for Politico "Obama campaign plays Trump card against Romney."
The Obama campaign group has gone on the offensive against Don Trump and his positions calling him the "birth certificate conspiracy leader" in an email to supporters. Obama deputy campaign manager Julianna Smoot wrote "Yesterday, Mitt Romney said he was 'humbled' to accept Donald Trump's endorsement. Seriously, Yes, Donald Trump -- birth certificate conspiracy leader -- has decided that Mitt Romney's his guy, and Romney has embraced him without reservation. He made a speech and even sent out a press release welcoming him. Meanwhile, here's what we're humbled by: 38,830 supporters have donated to the Two-Term Fund".

And when asked if Obama had been seeking an endorsement from Trump White House press secretary Jay Carney also took a shot at Trump, telling reporters: "I'm not going to comb over that question". Tau feels that the Obama team is pleased at the opportunity to capitalize on the Trump endorsement of Romney, hoping that it will make Romney seem not very serious or presidential. But this war of words between the Obama campaign and Romney's team over the Trump endorsement is not settled out yet. The Trump/Romney alliance after all has a great deal of money behind them to fight back.
