Obama believes he can assassinate American citizens without warrant or trial

The Obama Administration is essentially refusing to answer questions which emerged yesterday about a new policy they’ve outlined in a White House memo which declares that the Executive Branch may resort to the assassination of an American citizen without warrant, trial, or any other form of due process if “an informed high level official” determined that the citizen was “recently” involved in “activities” which could pose a “continuing threat” to the country. The President is refusing to elaborate on what constitutes “recently” or “continuing threat.”The President’s nominee to head the Central Intelligence Agency, John Brennan, has been said to be the architect of the kill list policy.

For all of the admittedly justifiable bellowing by many on the Left over the potential for abuses under the PATRIOT Act during the Bush Administration, the Obama White House appears to be the first in American history to openly adopt a policy which says that American citizens may be assassinated by the federal government if the government deems them a threat. No comment from the White House on how this policy is in keeping with the President’s oath to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The American Civil Liberties Union’s Deputy Legal Director even thinks the Administration’s claims smack of “irresponsible extravagance.” Could those who oppose the Administration internally be seen as a “continuing threat?”
