Obama and Romney on Autism (Photos)

During the 2012 election campaigns, we hear mostly about how Republican candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama plan to deal with the economy, national debt, and foreign affairs. Health care, education, and energy sustainability are other issues that typically get the spotlight. Numerous websites, mail flyers, paid advertisements and televised debates are designed to let the American people know where Romney and Obama stand on important subjects. However, one major issue is missing from all the hub. Autism and autism related disorders.

What is Romney's and Obama's plan for autism research? What about the Independent candidates? According to the Centers for Disease Control, or CDC, Autism Spectrum Disorder is being diagnosed at a rate of 1 in 88 children, and this number grows each year. Though science has gotten closer to discovering the cause of autism, they're nowhere near close enough. Funding for this important research can be hard to come by, and organizations such as Autism Speaks and the Autism Society can only do so much to help.

So where do the presidential candidates stand? How do they plan to help slow the autism epidemic our country faces? It's important to know how these politicians plan to help the autistic community. Check out the slideshow to get a brief synopsis about what some of the more popular candidate's plans are to help defeat autism.
