Although Barack Obama told the families attending a funeral of one of the first responders of the West, Texas fertilizer plant fire that they could count on the support of the federal government “even after the cameras leave,” his administration has denied an appeal for funding to rebuild.

According to various sources, including The Hill and Associated Press, Texas Gov. Rick Perry received a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate indicating the catastrophy “is not of the severity and magnitude that warrants a major disaster declaration.”

You are not forgotten.

“To the families and neighbors grappling with unbearable loss — you are not alone,” Obama told the funeral attendees of the town of 2,800. “You are not forgotten.”

The April 17th explosion killed 15 people and destroyed over 150 buildings, including the leveled West Middle School.

$450 million to Muslim Brotherhood, but...

"Obama can find the money to give $450 million to the Muslim Brotherhood, but he can't find any for the children and citizens of West, Texas," commented Cecil Abben from McLennan County.

Mayor Tommy Muska estimated repairs costs would total $57 million, with $40 million towards rebuilding the blown up school.

“President Obama has yet again promised one thing and then not delivered," said Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. "Just last month I saw the devastation first-hand, met with rescue workers and heard the President himself say that 'America needs more towns like West, TX.' "

"But now, once the cameras have stopped rolling, President Obama's FEMA has denied our state and our neighbors the necessary opportunities to rebuild critical infrastructure in the town, including an entire school," Abbott continued. "While President Obama has turned his back on Texas and gone against his word, we will continue to take care of our neighbors and I pledge to continue working with leadership, first responders and the people of West to make sure their collective strength shines bright for the whole nation to see.”

FEMA staff helped with the early aid in the original cleanup but has been authorized to cover only 75 percent of local government responding aid costs.

Some Texans are wondering if the rejection of helping West rebuild is due to ongoing conflicts between Obama and Texas, such as:
