Oakley Progression Sessions: Freestyle snow camps inspire girls

Oakley Progression Sessions kicked off at Loon Mountain in NH last Saturday.

Up to 40 female snowboarders will take to the slopes of Northstar-at-Tahoe in Truckee on March 26 and 27, 2011, for the first-ever California stop of the Oakley Progression Sessions. Oakley Progression Sessions are a new two-day series of camps created to teach and inspire girls wishing to step-up their on-snow riding.

Northstar is the fourth and final stop of the Oakley Progression Sessions tour, which travels to New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain, Utah’s The Canyons and Colorado’s Winter Park throughout the month of March.

Push the limits
“Oakley has a proud heritage in winter sports, and these two-day clinics will empower girls who wish to advance their skills and raise their own bar of performance,” said Oakley Women’s Brand Manager Jenny Earnshaw. “…girls will get the instruction they need to build confidence, expand their repertoire of tricks, and push the limits of possibility for what they can achieve in winter sports.”

Coaching by Olympic snowboarders
At Oakley Progression Sessions female campers can learn from those who know best. Professional coaches, headed up by Mary Walsh, staff each camp. Pro athletes slated to coach the Northstar camp include Olympian Gretchen Bleiler, Canadian Olympian Dominique Vallee and skate prodigy Lauren Perkins.

Freestyle skier Kristi Leskinen will coach up to 10 skiers, who are also welcome at the camp.

“We will have different classes for all levels,” said Oakley spokesperson Alyssa Gross. “This is for girls who want to get better in the park – so we’ll have a class for girls who would like to learn how to jump, hit a box or learn how to do a rail. There will be a class that will help experienced riders better their skills etc… so basically girls should already know how to snowboard.”

The cost is $250 for the two-day camp and includes two days of coaching, two day lift tickets, lunch, access to a private terrain park, morning yoga, video assessment, custom goggles, an event jersey and more. For more info or to register visit the Oakley Progression Sessions website.
