The Oakland Raiders will stay open minded about the quarterback position next year. According to Dennis Allen, Coach of the Raiders, the position has to be earned.
Mercury News reported on Wednesday that the Oakland organization will be giving both of their quarterbacks a chance to start. Yes, Carson Palmer will be competing for the spot against Terrelle Pryor.
According to the article, so far the favorite is still Palmer since he is the veteran and had a pretty decent season last year. Even though the Raiders had a losing season, Palmer was one of the only players in the squad to rake up numbers.
Palmer was one of the best performing players. He was even ranked up pretty high in the NFL league as far as throwing and passing yards.
What is keeping Pryor’s chances alive is the fact that the NFL has a new look at QBs. Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, and Russell Wilson have turned things around for QBs in the league.
These four quarterbacks have brought a lot of success to their teams with their different style of play, and the Raiders have that chance with Pryor. This means that the Raiders have a chance of playing with a strong-throwing, scrambling QB.
In the end, the Raiders have time to decide. Coach Allen stated, “"There has to be competition at every position.”
According to Allen, "no position is handed down year to year or season to season."
