Rumor has it that the Oakland Raiders are talking about guard Evan Mathis of the Philadelphia Eagles to join the Silver and Black. If the move were to come true, it could cost the Raiders a nice price.
It was reported on Wednesday that the Raiders are eyeballing 32-year-old Mathis and possibly come up with a trade with the Eagles to acquire the guard.
This move would definitely improve the offensive line for the Raiders. Mathis has a lot to offer for the Silver and Black and would make an outstanding addition.
Evan Mathis is a very capable pass protector and is considered as one of the best run blockers in the league. This guy could be the missing piece for the running game that the Oakland Raiders have been trying to establish for a while.
If Mathis came on board, the whole ordeal with Darren McFadden getting hurt all the time could be over. Mathis is known for opening lanes and holes on the ground for running backs to explode.
Anyway, saying this, the guard comes with a price. Rumor has it that the Raiders might give up a draft pick for Mathis. The money is not an issue, as the Raiders still have plenty in their pockets.
The Oakland Raiders could benefit from Mathis if a trade is made. On the other hand, the Raiders could lose a draft pick for him and take away the ability in adding youth to the squad for next season.
Whatever is done, the Raiders better not trade their first round pick for this guy! However, it would be nice to see Reggie McKenzie make a bold move for Evan Mathis.
