Say it loud, say it proud! Oakland has made it onto the Advocate's fourth annual list of 'Gayest Cities in America.'
When compiling the annual list the magazine takes a look at the number of openly elected gay officials, the quality of shopping, bisexual resource groups and the number of gay Rugby teams. The crew at the Advocate adds up the findings and divides that by the population of the city to determine the 'gay factor.'
Oakland made it to number 11 on the list. The Advocate sites a U.S. Census stat that states more lesbian couples call Oakland home per capita than any other major American city. Oakland also has the third highest number gay- and lesbian-headed households in the country. Tacoma, Washington grabbed the number one spot.
San Francisco, as surprising as it sounds, did not rank very high on the list. San Francisco got an honorable mention ranking at 17.
