Oakland's own fashion designer Theresa LaQuey places another feather in her cap as one of her bridal gowns is featured in the summer issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. The bride was Courtney Hopkins and the wedding took place in Hawaii in January, 2011.
The gown is made of a cream color double sided silk satin and silk velvet. Inspired by the glamorous styles of the 1930s, Theresa used zigzag diagonal seaming in the skirt for a lovely flow and added to the back a detachable double bustle - in velvet. The bodice features velvet straps that widen in the back.
Theresa was hard at work on this gown during the holidays, but any missed holiday festivities paid off. "I was very pleased with how the gown looked," says Theresa. "It is very exciting to have made it into Martha Stewart Weddings and hope I might make it in there again."
We hope so, too.
