It appears as though the Baltimore Orioles have still not made a significant move this offseason.
Closer Grant Balfour was expected to be at the warehouse Friday for a news conference to announce his signing, but concerns over his physical have put that on hold.
In fact, it sounds like the two sides won't be agreeing to a contract, although the O's may be willing to take a second look if Balfour drops his demands significantly.
Red flags were apparently raised about Balfour's shoulder by team doctors after they reviewed the MRI.
However, Balfour's side contends that the reliever is completely healthy and that the MRI hasn't changed since after his previous arm surgery a few years ago.
Balfour and his agent may be so angry over the Orioles pulling their offer that they could file a complain with the player's association.
The Orioles now seem likely to turn their attention to Fernando Rodney, who, after a tremendous 2012 season, had a 2013 campaign that almost mirrored that of Jim Johnson.
Rodney doesn't have a great track record, so it would seem silly to sign him to a contract to be the team's closer.
Just when it seemed like the O's organization was heading in the right direction. a lack of offseason acquisitions the past two years and now this gaffe have somewhat tainted their surprising run to the playoffs in 2012.
