O’s BEST ADVICE EVER! eases the first holiday season without the Oprah show

For those of us accustomed to Oprah Winfrey’s perennial Favorite Things television shows chock full of recommended gifts, the 2011 holiday season – the first without the Oprah show – just isn’t the same. The OWN Network struggles to find its footing. Anderson Cooper seems, three months in, to be a substitute teacher holding the 4:00 PM slot in afternoon television. Oprah has not been the usual ubiquitous media presence. For these reasons alone, die-hard Oprah fans can be forgiven for the inevitable case of withdrawals.

As an O, The Oprah Magazine subscriber, the DC Publishing Industry Examiner enjoys the December 2011 Favorite Things issue as a reasonable facsimile, immersed in Lady O’s thumbs-ups on gifting everything from shoes, to popcorn, to electronics – and, natch, books. Not the usual orgy of giving that Oprah’s one-hour Favorite Things television shows provided, but it still warms the holiday heart. Non-subscribers are also in luck. The editors of O, The Oprah Magazine give us O’s Best Advice Ever! Oxmoor House, the book’s publisher, offers this tease:

Dr. Oz. Suze Orman. Dr. Phil. Bob Greene. Nate Berkus. Martha Beck. You’ve come to know and trust them as much as Oprah does. Now, here they are, all together and at your service.

Every month, 16 million readers turn to O, The Oprah Magazine for inspiration and advice. For the first time, the best of that advice has been compiled in one collection. In these pages, our favorite contributors—including columnist Lisa Kogan, creative director Adam Glassman, and beauty director Valerie Monroe—each reveal what they know so well. Meanwhile, Oprah reflects on what she’s learned for sure after 25 landmark years of The Oprah Winfrey Show and more than a decade of overseeing O, The Oprah Magazine. The articles in O’s Best Advice Ever! answer vital questions about life, love, and happiness. Plus Oprah’s interviews with some of the men and women shaping our times—Tina Turner, Jerry Seinfeld, Tyler Perry, Barbra Streisand, Thich Nhat Hanh, the late Elizabeth Edwards—bring home what’s most important to us all.

The 320 pages of O’s Best Advice Ever! provide the eye candy and wow factor that Oprah has served up throughout her two-plus decades in our lives. From home décor to personal style, the book practically overflows with an abundance of gift ideas. There’s also the added bonus of non-fattening food for thought from the trusted household names that Oprah has made part of our lives – and from Oprah herself. The collected words of wisdom from the O magazine staple "What I Know For Sure" especially resonates (particularly the piece "If you can get paid for doing what you love, every paycheck is a bonus").

Mostly, though, O’s Best Advice Ever! helps to keep Oprah in our thoughts and hearts this holiday season…until she decides how to make her mark on a post-Oprah show future.
