The New York State Obamacare site recorded an overwhelming 7.5 visits by the afternoon of the first day (yesterday), after more than 2 million visits in 2 hours, causing it to crash.
According to sources at the NYS health department, New Yorkers who qualify for benefits under the Affordable Care Act will have access to relevant information, including the cost of deductibles and co-pays, which doctors and prescription drugs are participating in the network.
Health officials said with the Act, residents of New York State will soon have affordable health care plan that caters for majority of low income earners at reasonable and affordable cost.
"With a website providing so much data to so many people, we are working through these growing pains and are confident that users will have better access to the site shortly." health officials said.
After March 31st, the last day for open enrollment, qualification will be only for certain life events including marriage or a divorce, birth and the loss of a job. However, eligible New Yorkers will have up to December 15 sign up period for coverage starting January 1, 2014.
Experts say that an estimated 75 per cent of New Yorkers may qualify for the reduced-cost health insurance purchased through the exchange. For anyone whose family income is less than 400 percent of federal poverty level (which would be less than $45,960 for an individual and $94,200 for a family of four) would be able to get federal tax credit potentially to offset the full monthly price.
State officials announced that residents can call the help center on 1-855-355-5777 for assistance on enrollment process.
