Fashion week is here!
New York fashion week has to be my favorite time of the year!
Designers from all over the world come to show off their collections, and although I can't physically be there the videos, pictures, and news articles make me feel like I'm front row without having to walk in 4 inch heels in NYC.
Here are some of my favorite and least favorite looks this week:
Kate Spade really emphasized bright colors with dresses, bright colored bags, striped skirts, and bold statement necklaces. Most of her collection was a take on a very modern 60's look. Each piece really fit each model perfectly and had an impeccable fit.
BCBG took a take on the classic Men's t shirt. The designer kept the tops very neutral and spiced the bottoms with a slit on a skirt or used watercolor and mixed prints on the bottom. BCBG really juxtaposed masculinity and femininity for a very refined tailored look. To me, the whole collection was effortless and easy to wear. Almost ethereal.
DVF based her designs on anything you could fit into your little suitcase and travel the world with. She opted to a 60's modern look, to a play on black and white stripes, and animal prints. My favorite piece was her updated signature wrap dress. She made the tie a little lower which now sits more in front of your waist , and to update this look she mixed the two python patterns in a beige and charcoal color.
Tory Burch was inspired by Morocco which showcased a much softer focus. To me this was not my very collection of Tory's. Most of the clothing seemed a bit outdated or too cultural for my taste. The suede jackets, the lace sweaters, long floral skirts just seemed to fall a little flat. The fit also was lacking. The models looked as though the clothes were wearing them and not vice versa. All in all I was just very dissappointed because I'm one of her biggest fans and it just fell a little short.
So, what should we be wearing in 2014?? Well its safe to say big floras, pastels, and mismatched patterns on top and bottoms will still be in. Denim also seemed to be a big hit with dark washes, skinnies paired with chambray boyfriend fit shirts. Although the sad news is colored denim will fade, while basic indigo will be in full swing. Guess I will be buying some indigo jeans and pick up some bright shirts! How about you???
