Houghton’s designer Katherine Polk pulls inspiration from classic icons like Katherine Hepburn and Bianca Jagger as seen in past collections and we like it a lot! Citing K Hepburn and B Jagger as muses for a clean minimalist and beautiful fall 2014 collection which was quite different from past collections but just as timeless.
“This season was a new kind of voyage,” explained Polk. “I really went for a lot of volume.” And the volume she did show! The collection was all about soft, lush textures, with amazing oversized pieces. Oversize robe coats were the showstoppers in jacquard, boucle, and even fuzzy wools; soft around the edge and dramatic with each step. Paired over boxy pants and tailored shirts, the billowing coats had an easy luxurious feel. More volume was added to elephant sleeves on gowns and high-waisted trousers with inverted pleating.
Black lace dresses, sheer polka dot dress with a full skirt, touches of gold silhouettes, cinched waists in neutral shades and a cropped embroidered long-sleeve top and midi skirt added femininity to the collection.
Working with Birkenstock for the second time, Polk created a Celine inspired feather covered sandal that added to the collections ease.
