NYFW Day 8 recap: American Express Skybox, Urban Zen, Allegri, bebe BLACK

Wednesday brought a surprise: a tour of the American Express Skybox that we saw Joe Zee ducking into as we waited to enter the Carlos Miele show. Here's how that came about:

PMK.BNC publicist Lilian Bard had contacted me regarding stories about the celebrities who had been invited to view shows in the Stage and the Theater. Being native New Yorkers and not shy, we asked if there was a chance for us to be invited in. Well, there was. So instead of writing from the outside and guessing, we got to visit the Skybox for the press-only Urban Zen Balance Retreat. A little pushy can be ok.

In the plushly appointed room (complete with Kim Crawford Wines mini bar), Urban Zen had set up shop. We were expecting spa treatments, but Urban Zen does Reiki; a system of energy cleansing that teaches the body to heal itself. It was very simple, involved aromatherapy, and a light laying on of hands by my practitioner, Danny. We will be talking more about Reiki and Urban Zen soon.

After floating out of the Skybox, we went to the little cafe next to the Circa booth and had the most amazing peanut butter cookie ever made. Made by Momofuku, it melted in the mouth and made the eyes close to further concentrate on the perfection.

At 4pm, in a hidden courtyard luxury outerwear company Allegri celebrated 40 years of fashion with a presentation of coat-clad mannequins under a sky of black and white umbrellas. I wished for one red one, like Umbrellas of Cherbourg. After a few minutes, a runway show began with male and female models walking the perimeter of the display. Guests were served lobster, mushroom, and prosciutto rissotto, bread, and wine.

Style 360 hosted a fun show by bebe BLACK. While re-mixed songs from West Side Story filled the air, models jauntily bopped down the runway wearing brights and blacks that brought to mind the 80's and 50's. Like Sade and Madonna back when MTV played videos. A very young, upbeat, and happy show. The hair and makeup were perfect. The models had swingy color streaked ponytails and red lips. Very 'Veronica from the Archies goes punk'.

On the way home, passed by the Bar III pop-up store on 20th and 5th. Remember? We went to their preview at the New Museum? The store looked great, and will be there until March 6th.

Designers showing at Lincoln Center on Wednesday february 16th were Yigal Azrouel, Michael Kors, Adrienne Vittadini, and Anna Sui. Thursday the 17th is the end of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, with Gwen Stefani making her Lincoln Center debut, and the tents closing with Ivana Helsinki for the second year in a row.
