NYFW Day 7 recap: Nico Lena, theVessel, King Collective's double showcase

Tuesday February 15th got off to a late start and kept going that way.

The first scheduled stop was the Chelsea Art Museum for Nico Lena, Project Runway alum Nicholas D'Aurizio's line. Trays of tomato mozzarella skewers drizzled with balsamic vinegar and tasty sliders were handed around the room. Drinks were poured with abandon, which took one's mind off of the ticking clock momentarily. The show started late with a seafoam green scrunched/ruched sack dress in a reflective fabric. An interesting move.

After Mr. D'Aurizio took his bow, it was off to attend Lois Samuels' presentation for theVessel. Luckily it was only a few blocks away, but one was an hour late. Ms. Samuels presented a tightly curated capsule collection that focused on and clarified her creative vision. Standouts were everything presented, especially a layered cashmere jacket, and wrap dress with capelet (worn by Ms. Samuels at the show).

Now running woefully behind, the decision was made to skip Style 360's Boy Meets Girl show. It was also too late to swing by the Sunghee Bang presentation of their fall/winter collection at End of Century as well. We will be catching up with them later, but go to www.sungheebang.com to learn more about this hot, new designer.

The last stop for the day was King Collective's double showcase of young designers Ola Hawatmeh and Chiyuki Asano at the New York Salon in Bowl-Mor Lanes. Gold and white salon chairs were tightly packed on both sides of a thin, flat wooden runway. The lighting came from a spotlight at the end of the runway, full blast and tricky to shoot. There were two cash bars. The show started late.

Ms. Hawatma showed a great many pieces in different styles and fabrics. After a 10 minute intermission, Ms. Asano's show began with a model moving at the speed of snail to James Blake's cover of Feist's 'Limit To Your Love'.

At that point we reached our limit and went out for pizza.

Showing at the Lincoln Center tents were Badgely Mischka, Bibu Mohapatra (everyone's new favorite), Tibi, and Mackage.
