NYC tourist raped: Woman sexually assaulted leaving nightclub, no suspects yet

A NYC tourist raped is certainly not the headline that many U.S. tourists want to hear this week, yet the IB Times reported this Wednesday, Feb. 13, that an Australian tourist who was visiting New York City since early this month was raped on Saturday night, police confirmed.

The tourist, who has only been identified as a young woman in her 20s from Australia, was walking back from a Manhattan nightclub with two friends before the incident occurred. She and her friends left the nightclub around 3 a.m., got into a cab alone on East 58th Street, but decided to leave the cab early due to the high amount of traffic, sources reported.

While texting her friend, the rapist grabbed the woman from behind and sexually assaulted her, said police to the Daily News. The tourist cannot remember the location where she was raped, and though the rape suspect is still at large, the NYPD currently has a sketch of a man who sexually assaulted the victim. After the NYC tourist was raped, the suspect fled the scene, added the release.

The suspect is described as middle-aged, male, around 40 years old, and weighing 190 pounds, while wearing a skull cap during the rape itself. Any information people may have are asked to submit their report to the Crime Stoppers tip line, 1-800-577-TIPS.
