NYC tourist raped: Police search for cabbie and video suveillance (Video)

According to a Feb. 12 New York Daily News report, detectives are hoping video surveillance cameras and a New York cab driver are the key to finding the location where a tourist says she was raped.

The 20-year-old Australian tourist, who has been in New York for a little over a week now, claims she was raped by a black man. According to police reports, the victim went with two friends to Lavo on Feb. 9, but her friends left early leaving her alone. After having a few drinks, she left around 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 10 and caught a cab. However, she jumped out of the cab a few minutes later because traffic was too slow.

She was subsequently grabbed from behind while texting a friend, dragged into a nearby alley and raped, according to police. The attack reportedly happened on the West Side of town, not too far from the club, but the tourist has been unable to identify the exact location.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-30s and about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 190 pounds. According to news reports, authorities are searching for the cab driver and any helpful surveillance video to help with the investigation.
