NYC tourist raped: 20-year-old assaulted after leaving LAVO

A NYC tourist was raped after leaving the popular nightclub, LAVO. On Feb. 12, NBC News reported that the 20-year-old woman from Australia got in to a cab after leaving LAVO. For some reason, she got in to a fight with the cab driver and exited the vehicle. She was walking on East 58th Street around 3:30 a.m. when she was attacked from behind.

"She was then dragged into an alleyway, where she was sexually assaulted, police said. According to a law enforcement official, the woman then got into a second cab and texted a friend that she had just been raped. Police were called, and met her at another location where she was headed on the west side," NBC News reports.

The NYC tourist who was raped was too drunk to remember exactly where she was attacked. According to sources, the neighborhood where the woman was walking was "high-class" and many people were shocked to hear of the assault. It is unknown why the woman left the nightclub alone, but it's never a good idea to walk to city streets by yourself in the wee hours of the morning... especially when you've been drinking.

Other details of the incident are still being investigated. It is unknown how much the woman remembers of the night, but police are doing their best to work with the information that they have.

The NYC tourist who was raped is okay but police are searching for a suspect. He is believed to be in his mid- to late-30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 190 pounds (per NBC News). Any information should be reported to Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
