The Department of Citywide Administration Services (DCAS) is giving an exam for the rest of the year for School Safety Agent. The exam will be held from August 1, 2013 to October 31, 2013, test number is 4307. From November 1, 2013 until December 31, 2013, the test number is 4314. An application fee of $47.00 is required day of test. Acceptable forms of payment are credit, debit, bank card or USPS money order, payable to DCAS.
For exam number 4307, the test will be given on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. For exam number 4314, you must go to www.nyc.gov/dcas on November 1, 2013, for the testing schedules. The exam(s) will be given at the DCAS computerized testing centers located in Manhattan, 2 Lafayette Street, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10007 and Brooklyn, 210 Joralemon Street, 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
Current minimum salary is $31, 259.00 per year. Some of the duties of a School Safety Agent are to patrol areas of NYC school buildings and surrounding areas, prohibit items through scanning and remove any unauthorized persons from premises. School Safety Agents may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. For a complete list of job duties, go online to www.nyc.gov/dcas.
To be qualified to become a School Safety Agent, you must be twenty-one years of age or older, a citizen of the United States, a resident of New York City, no record for any felony or other serious crimes, former military personnel discharge must not be dishonorable and be of good moral character. The New York City Police Department will conduct a background check on all candidates.
If you pass the exam, at time of appointment, there will be a fee of $75.00 fingerprinting fee and a drug test. A medical and psychological screening will be administered at time of appointment. You will also be required to pass a qualifying physical test at time of appointment. All tests must be passed to be appointed.
The educational requirements are a high school diploma or its equivalent. A New York City residency requirement is needed at time of test and for two years as a School Safety Agent.
The test will be a multiple-choice test at a computer terminal. You must achieve at least a 70% score to pass the test. For a complete list of what will be on the test, go to www.nyc.gov/dcas. You will be notified through the United States Postal Service of a pass or fail score. A New York State driver’s license, in good standing is also required but not needed. A driver's license may be required for other positions.
