It was a New York City landmark for decades, but, in 2009 the legendary Rainbow Room closed due to a landlord - tenant dispute. In 2012 it was declared a New York City landmark, and, today it was announced that once again the Rainbow Room will reopen its doors in Fall, 2014. The Las Vegas based Blau + Associates will oversee the reopening process, and, New York based Gabellini Sheppard Architects will bring the Rainbow Room's public spaces back to life.
At this time no Executive Chef has been named nor has any information regarding the formality of the new Rainbow Room been released. Those who remember the old Rainbow Room will recall their strict code of tuxedos or dark suits required for gentlemen. One can only hope this tradition will find its way back to the new Rainbow Room, but, in this day and age where dressing for dinner and other social graces have gone out the window -- it is a long shot the strict dress code will return. More than likely we'll see P Diddy (or whoever the hip rapper or hip-hop artist is hot right now) chillin' in jeans and a hoodie and that's no way to treat an old friend returning to the neighborhood.
Stay tuned for developments in this story.
