New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg’s knack of Spanish hacking has made him a star, with a Twitter page growing in popularity that’s devoted to his effort to speak the language. El Bloombito on Twitter was created by a woman who couldn’t help herself after hearing Bloomberg’s Spanish during his press conferences, according to NBC.
Rachel Figueroa-Levin told NBC that “The Spanish is just so blatantly hilarious.” She went on to say, “It’s the diction, it’s the pronunciation, it’s the accent.”
Figueroa-Levin opened a Twitter account and she posts parodies of Bloomberg’s attempts to speak the language, that so far he has done nothing but verbally mutilate! With 15,000 followers and growing, it looks like others are getting a kick out of the unsuccessful attempts of the mayor to communicate in Spanish.
One third of the people who live in the Big Apple speak Spanish, and while it is commendable that the Mayor himself wants to communicate with his constituents, he has a Spanish translator standing right next to him as he goes on to slaughter the language. Will this newest Twitter account give Bloomberg a nudge towards using the translator next time?
Many Southern Connecticut residents work in NYC and have stayed tuned to Bloomberg’s conferences for direction on when to return to work, as the city is working on getting back to normal after Hurricane Irene ripped through. Southern Connecticut town and cities along the Metro North line and I-95 are considered bedroom communities for NYC and have been home to many of the white collar workers in the city for decades.
