NYC fashion; what's in store..Milan Fall 2012.. . Versace

This is where editors, buyers, bloggers and spectators unite for one sole purpose…fashion adoration!  This is where the trends for next fall begin and this is where the inspirations are born for what we know as trickle down to the mass fashion brands.  So, in addition to finding these exact clothes at Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Jeffrey, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, you will also be feeling their influence at stores like Zara, H&H, Forever 21 and even The Gap

Call me old fashioned, call me a bore but don’t call me a liar.  The collection shown by Ms. Versace can only be viewed, by me, as amazingly ballsy and I tip my hat to her for that.  There is too much sameness and too much of a sheep mentality today so how can I not admire her for this collection?

Okay, let’s play word association, but this time it is not ink blots but dresses; Goth, Madonna, nuns, papal, ecclesiastical, church, liturgical and that’s to start.  Then we can move on to Sprousey, Versace atelier, flanges, keyhole, motorcycle mama and warrior princess.  Put that all together and there you have Donatella’s vision for Fall 2012.

To say that these clothes are hard core is an understatement, to say that these clothes are hard as nails would indicate that the speaker has a flair for restraint but nothing can possibly prepare for you for total over the top balls out in your face clothes like these.  I am not sure if I love it or hate it but I can say I admire its audacity as there is absolutely very little commercial appeal at these prices.  Add to that these razor blade sharp looks and I would say sometimes you just have to try something off the wall.

Ms. Versace is certainly not lacking nerve and I will say the collection is sort of great from a purely esthetic level but I am not sure how this is gonna fly at retail.  For the dyed in the wool and ever faithful fashion flock, this will be a bonanza and for the copy brands, these clothes are gonna ring registers all over again like they did when Madonna began her career with her crosses and her heresy.

Suffice it to say this collection was far from calm and far from tame and if possible made Donatella’s catwalk bow look like that of a school teacher by comparison to what preceded her on the runway.  What I can say is that the boots were beyond amazing and I am sure nothing short of an engineering feat.

P.S.  Gianni must have been whispering in her ear …A LOT!
