Milan is where editors, buyers, bloggers and spectators unite for one sole purpose…fashion adoration! This is where the trends for next fall begin and this is where the inspirations are born for what we know as trickle down to the mass fashion brands. So, in addition to finding these exact clothes at Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Jeffrey, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, you will also be feeling their influence at stores like Zara, H&H, Forever 21 and even The Gap.
The boys at Dolce & Gabbana are nothing if not wildly prolific and now that their lines are shown combined, the presentation is huge. They are also wildly proficient at showmanship and as far as the entertainment factor, they rarely if ever disappoint. One last thing about them, once they grab onto a theme they beat it to death till there is nothing left of it and this season is no different.
Today it was pretty much about black and white, ruffles, lace, upholstery florals, fur, corsetry, and capes. Then, there is this one “little’ affectation I forgot to mention and that would be they continued on from their past men’s collection and furthered the idea of embellishments and embroidery until it reached the level of encrusted. As in the men’s collection, the embroidery/embellishments were gold and regal looking which of course was only enhances by the tiara like head wear.
Again, given the breadth of the collection, the boys reach out to everyone from molto signora to molto signora so so to molto signora hot hot. They manage to run the gamut of old young and everything in between and I might add that there was some hinting around about nuns with the chiffon habit like headwear. Actually, this is pretty much standard fare for these boys who never heard the word excess and never found a line they couldn’t cross.
Let’s talk about the disturbing trend that comes with styling a show and why is it the Italians seem fascinated with leg wear, in particular knee socks which In the way they have been shown can only remind me of old ladies’ hose; maybe it is just that from Sicily as that is always an underlying theme for D&G. I am not sure what they bring to the table in terms of overall look but I have seen it enough times now to mention it. All this being said, the collection is typical Dolce & Gabbana, with little if any surprises, and will undoubtedly delight all of their fans.
