Milan is where editors, buyers, bloggers and spectators unite for one sole purpose…fashion adoration! This is where the trends for next fall begin and this is where the inspirations are born for what we know as trickle down to the mass fashion brands. So, in addition to finding these exact clothes at Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Jeffrey, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, you will also be feeling their influence at stores like Zara, H&H, Forever 21 and even The Gap.
It must be good to be king. Giorgio Armani marches to the beat of his own drum and this season that would be a kettle drum o whatever drum is the loudest when played. The DNA and ever expanding vocabulary is tweaked every season and just when you think he cannot tweak it one more time, he does and he does with astonishing results.
The crowned king of soft tailoring delivered a collection that was long on tailoring and sartorial flourishes, not to mention very chic with that rakish touch. The hat rakishly tilted, the pocket squares and the flat shoes drove home the point that this man is indeed in in his own arena when it comes to fashion. Then, imagine this, he sent out 2 and 3 girls at time to drive home a point when needed and all the models wore hose!
All this being said, I am always aware that Armani is an acquired taste and thusly not big on everyone’s menu of favorites. I am awestruck with his mastery of the vocabulary he has created and that each season it is remarkably his and his alone. Whether it is his use of color or the layering he proposes, this man is in control. Even the most current of trends look somehow different here as they are also tweaked to fit the seasonal requirements of the collection and he does it as no one else.
Some will say it is boring and I hope that some will praise it but keep in mind that trying to reinvent the wheel every season or chasing the latest and greatest trend is boring as well.
