Blind date? Friends in town? Just need an after work wind down? Here are ideas for every day this week that works for every scenario.
Monday 03.28.11 - Love dive bars and free comedy? Then King's Cross is the place for you on Monday nights. Located on the bustling Bowery, you can start your evening with a few rounds of $3 Buds or better yet $5 Bud & Shot combo, and by 8 PM the free laughs kick in. Recess features a revolving line up each week and features comedians from Comedy Central, MTV, VH1 and more. And since you tummy full of happy hour drinks will likely be starving after the show, the best part is NYC's best mexican restaurant, Hecho en Dumbo, is right next door. The menu can change seasonally but right now be sure and try the sweetbreads toastadas and jaiba medallions!
Tuesday 03.29.11 - If you're willing to venture above 14th Street, Playwright Pub, is one of the best Irish bars and Tuesday nights are Trivia nights. Great for larger groups or as a way to horn in on a larger group you want to meet. And even though it's in the heart of Times Square, the tourist count isn't too bad, and even better, the SiriusXM studios are a block away, and hosts and regulars of the shows stop by for drinks here often.
Wednesday 03.30.11 - Wednesday is my favorite night of the week to try a popular restaurant I've been wanting to go to or just my favorite restaurants that always have long waits. Most people are feeling the mid-week "hump" and tend to head straight home, order takeout and curl up on the couch and watch Survivor. This leaves a few more open tables than other nights of the week, so try and sneak into Ippudo for some pork buns and Akamaru Modern.
Thursday 03.31.11 - If your waistline is expanding, liver failing, and wallet feeling emptier from all the food and drink of the previous 3 nights, tonight would be a great night to focus on you. Yoga to the People offers yoga classes in multiple locations for a suggested donation of $10. If you don't have a mat you can rent one for 2 bucks.
Friday 04.01.11 - When the weekend arrives, the city tends to get overrun by the B&T crowd, and even your favorite secret spots can be impossible to get into, so Fridays are great nights to escape to Brooklyn. The Knitting Factory of Brooklyn has shows every week and they usually cost around 10 bucks. Even if you don't go to the show, the bar is a great spot to hang meet people. Afterwards grab some gourmet BBQ across the street at Fette Sau. Picnic table style seating and pitchers of cold imported beer is the perfect way to end the week.
