News of a child pornography ring busted wide open by law enforcement conjures up visions of perverted criminals looking unkempt and disheveled, but that is not at all what many of these criminals looked like. These criminals include a scoutmaster, a rabbi, two NYPD police officers, a NYC firefighter, a registered nurse, a nanny and a security supervisor with the Transportation Security Administration, according to CNN News on May 21.

This child pornography sting netted 71 people, which included one woman and 70 men, in a peer to peer online porn ring. These peer to peer networks were infiltrated by law enforcement using Skype. A police officer used the online chatting service “to have women pose their children naked for him,” according to a law enforcement official.

This was a joint effort between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with the New York authorities. On these peer to peer networks, the suspects didn’t know each other, but they shared pictures and files using “graphic terms and descriptions” to access the porn. Federal officials are calling this one of the largest-ever roundups in the New York City area, according to USA Today.

Images were continuously uploaded into the personal computers, laptops and mobile phones using software that scanned files for the child porn content. The graphic pornographic pictures of the children were shared between peers in these groups for no charge.

The supervisor with the Transportation Security Administration allegedly had sex with children and traveled out of the country to the Dominican Republic to do this. A law enforcement official said that this supervisor allegedly made more than 50 trips. The man who was the den leader for the scouts is also a little league coach.

The woman who was arrested is charged in using her own child in producing child pornography. She was also charged with distributing the porn. A man was charged of secretly filming his own stepdaughter while she was naked using hidden cameras.

The sickness continued with a man, who was out on bail from a charge last year where he was accused of using the Internet to “direct women to record sex acts with young children. Along with nabbing the alleged perpetrators, the cops seized almost 600 desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, tablets and other devices. This five-week investigation netted these 71 arrests and police took custody of computers containing thousands images and videos of children that were sexually explicit.

All the suspects were granted bond which ranged from $30,000 to $500,000 and about a third of the suspects are still in custody today. At a news conference Wednesday NYC law enforcement gave some more of the details mentioned above. According to USA Today law enforcement created a poster with some of the people from this bust featured they include:

“Brian Fanelli, a former police chief, Samuel Waldman, a rabbi, Yong Wu, a police officer, Jonathan Silber, a Boy Scout leader and Little League baseball coach, and Aaron Young, a paramedic.”

These are the people that are suppose to protect kids, not exploit them. This bust leaves a pit in the stomach for many reading about the occupations of these criminals, many who were in excellent standing in the community.
