It’s great when a business gives back to a neighborhood that it can call home. It is beneficial to everyone. Not only does it make for great entertainment for the lucky people who discover it. But it helps the business draw in new clientele as well. In New York City, especially in midtown, it not only benefits New York City locals who are coming home from an exhaustive day at work, but tourists as well. Or just anyone in between who happened to see the event in New York advertised on social media.
Brother Jimmy’s has several locations around New York City including Lexington Avenue and the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side. No matter which one people go to though they will get the same friendly service from everyone who works there and great food and drinks. Their happy hours are awesome with half priced appetizers (frickles and nachos are delish!) and drink specials which are $3-$5 for specified drinks. In a city as expensive as New York City, one cannot go wrong here!
Their free event, which was in celebration of their five year anniversary at their Murray Hill (Lexington Avenue) location did not disappoint. The lines were actually not as long as one might think. (New Yorkers LOVE free stuff after all). Everything moved fast. Regardless, people were nice to talk to in the lines, and the staff who gave their time to serve everyone the yummy food need applause. They even looked like they were having just as much fun as the ones waiting in line and easting!
The food was as great as always. The staff roasted an entire hog, enough to serve over one thousand pulled pork sandwiches. They also served rib tips and corn on the cob, which had a great, sweet, and juicy flavor. In order to please kids (little and big ones alike!), they had a little popcorn stand and cotton candy. Those two were great appetizers when one stood in the line waiting on the “official big kid treats.”
Even outside, people could hear a band playing old and new songs inside the restaurant that everyone knew and could enjoy while they ate their food and/or took advantage of the great happy hour drink specials. The bar was packed with a diverse crowd, and everyone looked like they were having a blast.
It is guaranteed that no one went away hungry. And if someone was lucky to pass by or a tourist, they will have gotten a good sampling of great food and hospitality that Brother Jimmy’s is known throughout New York City for. Thanks to everyone who made such a great event!
